Doctor: "So Mr. Larkin now this meeting is just part of the procedure for anyone going to Mars with NASA, but of course you being a doctor know that. So no worries."
Max: "No problem go right ahead."
Dr: "Do you mind if I call you Max?"
Max: "I would prefer to be called by my middle name Steven. I feel it is more dignified. I am told my dad had a dog named Max growing up. But then again my younger brother's name is Spike, so I guess I didn't get off too bad."
Dr.: "No I would say not. You seemed to tense talking about your family. How is your relationship with your mother?"
Max/Steven: "Not good, I just feel like I can't trust her."
Dr: "Have you always felt that way?"
Max/Steven: "Well I would have to say it all started when I was four. I was assured again and again that I was not going to get any shots at the doctor's office. My sister would get shots, but I would just be getting a physical. All the way to the office and even in the waiting room she promised not shots. HA! What a great liar she was! I was held down on a table and got two very painful shots. I can still remember the screaming. Sometimes I wake up at night remembering the betrayal. Sure she cried too and bought me stuff and let me do what I wanted for the rest of the day, but I can't be bought. The betrayal is still there. Never again did I feel I could trust her."
Dr.: "I don't blame you sir. That sounds pretty rough. I am impressed you were able to achieve all your medical accomplishments with such a mother."
Max/Steven: "O, you haven't heard the worst of it..."
I am sure this will be a continuing blog series.

Oh I love this Emily. I was dying laughing! Poor little guy. Perhaps he will admit to the 'doctor' his gratefulness for his mom keeping up on immunizations? :)
this was a clever post. I like the idea of something written from Max's point of view.
So, I wanna know...did you trick him into getting the shots (lie with the intention of bribery later) or did you really think he wasn't going to have to get any, today?
I'm excited for preschool, next week. It's like a mini therapy session with those kids. They tell me the funniest things. Some of them were so concerned about what their dad's had bought their mom's for christmas, it was hillarious.
Hahahaha -- loved this.
When he got shots in Sept at the health dept they said he wouldn't need any more til he went to Kindergarten. I was so sure he wasn't getting any yesterday. That is where the betrayal comes in. The surety in my voice.
so you have a blog??
I remember taking my 3 oldest children in for school exams and shots when they were 5. I took Megan in for a regular appointment when she was 4 and was surprised because they gave her all of her school immunizations that day. They said that she was old enough to get them. I don't remember promising her that she wouldn't get any shots that day, but I was surprised when they gave them to her. She's always been very good about getting shots anyway so it was okay.
When I was in 1st grade they gave us shots at school. I don't even remember if they asked our parents. We got 2 or 3 shots about 6 weeks apart. It turned out that it was a test for the original Salk Polio Vaccine. They gave the 1st graders water shots and the 2nd graders the real vaccine. We were the control group. The vaccine really did work so when I was in 2nd grade we got shots again and they gave us the real vaccine. I remember not wanting to go to school because I was afraid that they would give us shots.
It wasn't that bad was it? Alex will probably get his kindergarten shots some time this year. I'm going to try to sign him up for the district preschool. He doesn't need it. They probably won't accept him, but it can't hurt to try. I'm not sure I can do another year of the co-op preschool.
