"Someone Left the Cake Out in the Rain"

As I approach my 27th birhtday on Wednesday recent events have been reminding me that I am old. Perhaps not in years, so much as in attitude and position of life. The most recent event was last night. Jeff and I were very excited to hear that Cake was coming to town and being moderate big fans we got tickets and a babtsitter, (thank you Morgan for taking excellent care of Max.) Oh and yes, we did go to a rock concert instead of the Stake Temple Day, I am not sure what that says about me. Anyway, all day long the rain had been coming down and I was kinda hoping that being an outdoor pavillion(!!!)that maybe it would be rescheduled or refunded. NOPE, despite the tornado warnings it was still on. Well having spent the money already and having a babysitter all lined up we headed down anyway. Everyone else seemed to be in a good mood. It seemed to be filled mostly with late twenty-something and early thirty-somethings all drinking massive amounts of beer and smoking heavily, (In today's age of no smoking in buildings it was rather suprising to be reminded that so many people my age still smoke!) We were of course all huddled under the available awnings instead of in our seats which were totally drenched. So that made the smoke a bit worse, then the hail came down, yup and the water started running high on the ground and flooding areas, and the winds came, and the bastards started over 40 min late. But despite all this no one else seemed to care. Is it me? Am I getting too old? Was it just the protective instinct of a pregnant mother worried that she was standing in a puddle of water surrounded by electrical cords? Or was I just never cool enough to roll with it in the first place? Once the music started I was happy to hear some of my favorites. Any song with sheep in it is okay by me. We left after about 40 min and were drenched by the time we got to our car. Not a single part of us was dry it was as if we had gone swimming. I am not saying I will never go to another concert again, but I think I will be a bit more picky in the future. I will keep in mind what would be age appropiate, cause I'm getting old.

bonus points for the one who can name the song the title comes from, and no it's not a Cake song.

Max's Girls

So today I thought I would arrange a fun play date for Max. For the past few weeks we have had his friend Leah come over on Wednesday mornings. They play really well together and she is so low key it is like having no kids here at all. Today I thought we would enlarge the circle and invite over Max's other best friend Claudia. They all know each other from nursery, so I figured it would be fun. It went surprisingly well. They all had a lovely time playing outside with the bubbles and Daisy the dog. At one point I got worried cause Claudia got in the Cozy Coupe headed in the direction of her house and said, "Bye I am going home" After bubbles, juice and some popcorn, Max decided it was time for a bath. All the kids were pretty adamant that it was time for a bath. I was a bit skeptical that it would work out but it was the best part of the morning. They had such a good time playing with the bubbles and bath toys.
After bath time the kids played for a bit longer before it was time to go home.

It was fun and the kids were all very happy, and the mom's too, but I am not sure I will have enough energy for this again. Max will have to see his women one at a time.

It's like they knew...

Seriously people? It is like the Pottery Barn people knew I was pregnant.

Away for the Day

Use it or lose it. That is the WAL-MART vacation days policy. So, Jeff needed to use a week of vacation before May or lose it all together. (We tend to hoard these until the end of the period.) Jeff took last week off and we had a few adventures. We left Max with many friends (Thank you Gulbransans, Scheeles, and Vernettis,) and went to Kansas City the Saturday and Sunday before his week off. It was fun to be away from Max, (This was our first trip away together,) I ate and ate and just kept on eating. We stayed at the Sheraton Suites in the middle of a really hoity toity shopping/restaurant district. (The area was covered with Bunny statues for Easter.) It was nice that we could just walk to everything. It was a bit depressing going into my favorite stores (Anthropologie,...) and not be able to buy clothes. There was a Gap Maternity but the sale clothes were all winter sweaters and I hate paying full price at the Gap. I did find the most adorable baby bunny booties at Scandia Down, but since I don't know if a boy or girl yet (three more weeks) I had to buy the blue and pink. We ate at my new favorite restaurant Brio. It's an Italian Grill and they have this chopped salad to die for and my pasta dish consisted of these little pasta dumplings filled with ricotta cheese. (oh man it is killing me to even type this.) I have never had such soft delicate pasta before. My breath was so bad for the rest of the day but I didn't want to have a mint cause the taste was still so good. Poor Jeff. We had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. The wait was going to be an hour cause it was raining and Prom night in Kansas City (there are some really slutty high school girls out there) but despite the rain it was really warm and nice so Jeff asked if we could eat outside under the large awnings. It was great we didn't have to wait and never even got wet. We also avoided sitting next to stupid teenagers. Our hotel was nice enough. It was fun cause the suite had a separate sitting room. The only flaw was that the mattress was as hard as concrete. We had room service the next morning which was a kick. We were going to go to the zoo the next day, but it started snowing! So we just headed home, but it didn't matter. It was such a lovely and relaxing get away. More on the vacation later...

Things That Must Go V

It has been awhile since the last list, which I would like to contribute to my being at peace with the world, but probably has more to do with my laziness.

1. Saturday Rain: It seems like it has rained or snowed for the last month+ on the weekends. My garden and lawn need some serious attention and I have not been able to give it to them.

2. Birthday Greetings 1.0: I have two sites that I check daily Facebook, and SisterShare (a relief society site,) and on both sites it seems that everyone has been having a birthday recently. Now I don't have anything against birthday's or my friends and associates, but the greetings are getting a bit overwhelming. On sister share, any time someone wishes someone else a happy birthday it takes up the whole message board and other posts are not shown. But what is even worse is when someone doesn't get a b-day greeting at all. Then the whole thing becomes a popularity contest, like during the Oscar's In Memoriam segment when the really famous actors get a lot of claps, and older forgotten actors get silence. Everyone feels awkward, or should. It is a good thing gone wrong. So I don't really have an answer, you may get a greeting from me you may not, but hopefully you know if I like you or not and if I do you know I want you to have a lovely Birthday.

3. Birthday Greetings 2.0: I am really lazy on facebook and I am really annoyed at the dozens of requests that I get daily for redundant things. Now I do like taking silly quizzes and stuff, but I find it odd that I seem to be alerted to every one's birthday without signing up for anything and yet facebook wants me to jump through several pages to alert every single person of my birthday. TOO MUCH WORK. Again you know if I want you to have a happy day and I think I know you want me to have on too. May 6th. That's the day.

4. N.A.S.A.: It seems like there has been an increase in the past few years in the number of shuttles they send up to do stuff up there. How much is this costing us? Really? People complain about bailouts, Iraq, other government spending, why aren't' people complaining about NASA? What have they really done for us lately? Yeah the moon was cool and a worthy use of money for many reasons, but that was 1969 people. We are not even close to getting to Mars and if we were we already know there ain't nothing there. Now I am fine with the government launching satellites for defense and communication, but I really feel that everything else should move to the private sector. Let rich nerds figure out warp engines and stuff and then get back in the game. Lets not go anywhere unless there is a good reason to go, i.e. air, water, really cool aliens. I don't want another penny of my money going to repairing a toilet on the international space station so some guy can study to effect of zero gravity on worms.

Hmm this may be my first list without a complaint pertaining to Max's cartoons. I think were making progress.

I need a vacation

I am usually happy to be living in Arkansas. It is the most lovely of states, particularly right now as everything is that lime green spring color. We have just the right mix of city and country, and the people are wonderful. But I need me some family babysitters near by. My parents are the closest at 13 hours away! That's no good. Jeff and I have not been away from Max together (for more then 6 hours) ever. I am not asking for a week here, just a night or two before baby number two comes along. This is truly the one drawback of not living in Utah. (Although frankly if everyone were smart they would move out here, it's way better.) Oh well. That's enough griping. As for good news, I am finally feeling better. Wahoo. I still have one or two bad nights a week, but for the most part it seems like the sickness is behind me. I have also come to terms with the possibility that I might actually have a girl, (we find out in early May.) I want another boy, a playmate for Max, mostly because I don't want to deal with all the drama of girls. I also feel that I won't have any self control when it comes to buying dresses and bows and well have to declare bankruptcy within a few years. One thing that has made me more accepting of the possibility of a girl is that Jeff and I have decided upon a name. It feels totally right and makes me almost excited. If we have a girl she will be named Mae/May Maureen Larkin. As you can see we are not sure how we want to spell Mae/May. But either way doesn't Mae/May and Max go so well together? It has always been my favorite month since my birthday is in May and that is usually when school gets out. It also happens to be the middle name of my best friend and sister Krista (Mae). So really it just fits. Maureen was Jeff and my boss at the BYU Bookstore. But really she was more then that to both of us. She is a good friend whom we always see when we are in Utah and we are so glad to know her. Now I suppose something could happened between now and September to change our minds, but it really does seem like the right fit. Please feel free to participate in the survey as to the Mae/May debate.
